San Francisco, CA – The partnership of Public Law Group®, Renne Sloan Holtzman Sakai LLP, announced Friday the addition of prominent public interest attorney Arthur A. Hartinger.

Hartinger, 55, joins Public Law Group® as a partner – bringing three decades of legal experience – and, with extensive trial experience, is considered one of the top employment litigators in California. The Daily Journal has named him a “Northern California Super Lawyer” every year since it started the award in 2004, and in 2012 listed him on its distinguished list, the “Top 100 Lawyers in California.” He has also been named one of the top 75 labor and employment attorneys, and one of the top 20 municipal lawyers in each of the last three years.

Public Law Group®, founded in 2004 by former San Francisco City Attorney Louise Renne, is recognized as one of the top public sector and public interest law firms in California. The firm works for a diverse group of government and public agency clients, as well as nonprofits and community-based organizations. Its clients include many major California cities and counties.

“Art is truly one of the best lawyers I have ever known,” Renne said. “His commitment to public service is unparalleled, and I’m delighted to work with him again – as many of us did in the City Attorney’s Office.”

Hartinger’s experience representing public agencies is extensive: he has represented the City of Los Angeles, the City and County of San Francisco, the City of San Jose, and many others. An expert on retiree medical litigation, he won on behalf of Orange County in a case that went to the state Supreme Court and the U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Hartinger has also successfully defended the chief of the Richmond Police Department against claims brought by several members of his command staff in a three-and-a-half-month jury trial.

The move is a bit of a homecoming for Hartinger, who worked years ago as a deputy city attorney in San Francisco during Renne’s tenure as city attorney.

“I am thrilled to practice again with Louise Renne, whom I’ve always admired,” Hartinger said. “Since I first worked as a law clerk for former Oakland City Attorney Richard Winnie, I have dedicated my core practice to public interest work. Public Law Group® is devoted to this practice, and it’s part of the firm’s organizational DNA. To me, this is like returning to my family.”

Hartinger comes to Public Law Group® from Oakland-based Meyers Nave Riback Silver & Wilson. He is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley and the University of San Francisco School of Law.
