Experience

Mr. Shaw joined the firm as an associate in 2006 and focuses his practice on the representation of public agencies and non-profit organizations in labor and employment matters.  Mr. Shaw frequently handles arbitrations involving employee discipline and contract interpretation disputes, and litigates on behalf of public agencies in state and federal court in cases involving discrimination claims, overtime pay and other employment issues.

In addition to labor and employment, Mr. Shaw has extensive public interest litigation experience, having represented senior citizens in several lawsuits against major insurance companies and related entities for the inappropriate and/or predatory sale of deferred annuities, living trusts and reverse mortgages to seniors.  He has significant class action experience, and has represented consumer classes through certification and settlement.

Related Experience

Prior to joining Renne Sloan, Mr. Shaw practiced civil litigation in a Washington, D.C. law firm, where he represented injured plaintiffs in catastrophic injury and product liability cases.  He successfully obtained verdicts and settlements for numerous clients and the families of victims in wrongful death cases.

Mr. Shaw has also practiced law in the Federal Government, having been an attorney-advisor with the U.S. Small Business Administration.  During law school, Mr. Shaw was a legal intern with the U.S. Department of Justice, and also worked as a researcher on the Presidential Advisory Commission on Holocaust Assets in the United States, where he investigated art, gold and securities looted during World War II and contributed to a report of findings and recommendations presented to President Clinton.
